Das Jahrzehnt von 1960 bis 1969 markiert eine der faszinierendsten und zugleich widersprüchlichsten Phasen in der Karriere von Elvis Presley. Nach seiner Rückkehr aus dem Militärdienst im März 1960 stand der „King of Rock ’n’ Roll“ vor der Herausforderung, sich in einer sich wandelnden Musiklandschaft neu zu positionieren. Die 1960er Jahre waren geprägt von einem intensiven Wechselspiel zwischen filmischer Routine, musikalischer Stagnation und schließlich einem künstlerischen Wiederaufstieg, der seinen Höhepunkt in den legendären Memphis-Sessions von 1969 fand.
